MC4 Connector

A solar connector is a device used to establish a safe and reliable electrical connection between photovoltaic panels.  They also connect photovoltaic panels and other photovoltaic system components, such as inverters, charge controllers, and batteries.  Photovoltaic connectors ensure efficient energy transfer and minimize any power loss in the system. 

The MC4 connector comprises three parts: the connector body, the inner core, and the rivet. The main material of the connector is PPO, PA66, and so on.

The principle of photovoltaic connectors


MC4 connector is a special connector used to connect photovoltaic modules and other electrical equipment, the main principle is to convert solar light into direct current energy and transfer it to the inverter or the power grid for storage or use.


When using an MC4 connector, the photovoltaic module converts solar light into direct current energy and delivers it to the connector's plug. The sandwich piece in the plug ensures that the current flows properly into the socket and connects to other electrical equipment. Through photovoltaic connectors, DC energy can be converted through an inverter and delivered to the grid for domestic or commercial electricity.


The most common MC4 connector is the MC4 industry standard. MC4 means "multi-contact, 4mm" and refers to the 4mm diameter of the connector contact pin. The MC4 is designed to be weatherproof, UV resistant, and resistant to harsh environments to provide a long-term safe connection. 

The MC4 connector has a tiny cost proportion in the entire photovoltaic system, but it is used in many photovoltaic systems, including junction boxes, bus boxes, components, and inverters.


MC4 connectors are critical to photovoltaic systems to ensure electrical efficiency, safety, weather resistance, scalability, ease of installation and maintenance, and compatibility between components.  Photovoltaic connectors minimize power loss and maintain overall system efficiency by providing a safe and reliable connection between the solar panel and other components in the system balance.


MC4 connectors also protect against potential hazards, such as arcing or short circuits, and help withstand environmental conditions, such as ultraviolet radiation, extreme temperatures, and moisture.  A high-quality connector should be able to maintain the life of the solar photovoltaic system (about 25 to 30 years).


The MC4 connector helps scale solar arrays easily in series or parallel configurations, enabling flexible system designs.  They simplify installation, maintenance, and compatibility with different solar panel brands and components.

We know that the material of PPO is better than PC, but due to the special effect of the T shape, if we use PPO completely, the material will be softer, but the firmness will be worse than PC. So after many tests and adjustments, we finally chose the combined material of PC+PPO, which perfectly solved this problem.
