IEA calls on countries to implement COP28 energy-related commitments

The International Energy Agency (IEA) held a high-level meeting at its Paris headquarters on February 20, local time. The core topic of the meeting was global climate change and how to implement it in the 28th Session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Important energy commitments were made at the Conference of Parties (COP28). The goal of the meeting is to seek joint efforts from all parties to achieve global temperature control goals and contribute to the future development of the earth.

In December last year, COP28 reached a consensus on a series of topics under the UAE Consensus, including the first global stocktake of the Paris Agreement, mitigation, adaptation, finance, loss and damage, and just transition. The consensus sets clear goals for the global energy transition, that is, by 2030, the world will accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels, triple the installed capacity of renewable energy, double energy efficiency, and significantly reduce methane emissions.

IEA Director Fatih Birol emphasized that the "UAE Consensus" sets a clear direction for the global energy industry and is of great significance to the global clean energy transformation. However, it will take a lot of effort to translate consensus into practical action. Birol said that the IEA is willing to work with all countries to jointly turn the beautiful vision into reality.

To achieve this goal, the IEA will take several measures to promote the implementation of relevant commitments of all parties at COP28. First, the IEA will assist all parties to develop practical solutions to address the challenges faced in the clean energy transition. Secondly, the IEA will be committed to providing more financial support for clean energy transition to ensure energy security and development on a global scale.

Birol pointed out that the global energy transition is an arduous task, but only through joint efforts can the global temperature control goal be achieved. The IEA will continue to play its unique role and contribute to promoting the global clean energy transformation.

At this high-level meeting, representatives from various countries also expressed a positive attitude towards the global energy transition and stated that they would go all out to implement the commitments made at COP28. It can be seen that on the issue of global climate change, the international community is showing an unprecedented spirit of unity and cooperation, contributing to the sustainable development of the earth. With the joint efforts of all countries, the global temperature control goal is expected to be achieved, and the future of the earth will be better.
